Glasgow Pubs & Restaurants

Ten years ago when someone inquired about the best places to eat in Glasgow they would have more than likely been presented with a list of about a half dozen recommendations.

My, how times have changed. Now, the eating and drinking environment is vastly different and significantly improved.

Some of those restaurants that would have been named in the early 1990s – such as the venerable Ubiquitous Chip, Buttery or Rogano—are still trading at the top today. But they have been joined by more than a dozen excellent establishments: restaurants such as Gamba, Brian Maule at Chardon d’Or, Rococo and Lux; Quigleys, Saint Judes, Air Organic, Stravaigin or Battlefield Rest, Mulberrys, Smiths of Glasgow, No Sixteen, Two Fat Ladies or Otago.

In addition to the global diversity, Glasgow offers meals to match most every budget. Bars are especially important for economical dining out and a good many of them serve much more than traditional pub meals. The gastro-pub phenomenon has had its impact in Glasgow: for every place that has classic pie beans and chips expect to find another with offering freshly prepared courses with side salads.

Restaurants

Gamba

Glasgow's best seafood restaurant and bar, known locally for its truly outstanding value and high levels of quality and service. There is nothing better than good quality seafood, cooked to perfection, so whether your visit is to enjoy fresh lobster thermidor or simply to slip half a dozen oysters over with a glass of wine in our cosy bar you will love the fabulous atmosphere of Gamba.

The Buttery

Dating from 1856, this is Glasgow's oldest, most enduring and celebrated restaurant. Blessed with a relaxed atmosphere and unique interior of oak panelling, stained glass, fresh colours and the most wonderful mahogany and marble bar.

Two Fat Ladies

Not to be confused with the television cooking show, this restaurant was named for an old bingo term and specializes in healthy seafood dishes. The intimate dining room is simple in decor, with neutral colors and wooden accents. Leading the list of fresh-catch favorites are lobster, monkfish, turbot, and steamed mussels. Try banana flambé with tequila for an innovative and tasty dessert.

Pubs

Molly Malone's

Malone's is a venue with everything, with a full cafe menu by day and a great live entertainment line up by night.

The Argosy Lounge Bar

The Argosy Lounge Bar is a recently refurbished, lively & vibrant local bar. Busy on a daily basis, the bar boasts 4 plasma screens & 3 T.V's showing a wide range of sporting events & every live football game on Sky TV, Premier Plus & Setanta. Various live musical bands & comedians appear over thw course of the year & there is a live karaoke night every Saturday. Upstairs in the lounge area food is served on a daily basis & the function suite is available for social events on a booking basis. A very well run & friendly pub.
